چکیده

Recent studies of single-atom catalysts open up the prospect of designing exceptionally active and environmentally efficient chemical processes. The stability and durability of such catalysts is governed by the strength with which the atoms are bound to their support and their diffusive behaviour. Here we use aberration-corrected STEM to image the diffusion of single copper adatoms on graphene oxide. We discover that individual atoms exhibit anomalous diffusion as a result of spatial and energetic disorder inherent in the support, and interpret the origins of this behaviour to develop a physical picture for the surface diffusion of single metal atoms. 2017 Elsevier B.V. Direct in situ observations of single Fe atom catalytic processes and anomalous diffusion at graphene edges.

Single-atom catalysts are of great interest because of their high efficiency. In the case of chemically deposited sp(2) carbon, the implementation of a single transition metal atom for growth can provide crucial insight into the formation mechanisms of graphene and carbon nanotubes. This knowledge is particularly important if we are to overcome fabrication difficulties in these materials and fu...

Performance comparison of graphene and graphene oxide-supported palladium nanoparticles as a highly efficient catalyst in oxygen reduction

In this work, the performance of graphene nanosheets (GNs) and graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets, as a support for palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) toward oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), was studied. The graphene nanosheets were functionalized by a new and simple method. The PdNPs were synthesized on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with GNs or GO via a potentiostatic method; without using...

The electronic and diffusion properties of metal adatoms on graphene sheets: a first-principles study

We use first-principles calculations to investigate the geometric, electronic and magnetic properties of metal adatoms on two typical graphene substrates (monolayer and bilayer). Firstly, we study the adsorption behaviors and the doping effects of metal atoms on pristine and defective bilayer graphene sheets (PBG and DBG). It is found that the metal doping in DBG sheets is more stable than that...
